about Atlanta e911
The Atlanta E911 Communications Center is a Support Services Division of the Atlanta Police Department. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week as a consolidated police and fire dispatch. It serves as a critical nerve center for all Emergency and Non-Emergency calls within the City of Atlanta, which spans 133 square miles with a population of approximately 500,000 residents.
The Center is a horizontal Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) meaning one person answers the calls and another person dispatches the calls. The Center does not dispatch EMS, those calls are sent to Grady and/or DeKalb.
The Center also houses the Communications Training Unit, which provides education and certifications for 911 and dispatch communications employees and the Electronics Maintenance Department, which installs and maintains the citywide radio system, transmission equipment and monitors alarm receivers for City facilities.
Overall, the Center serves 6 police precincts, 31 fire stations, Special Operations, and Investigation.
