Atlanta Police prepare for the annual Peach Drop celebration at Underground Atlanta

The Atlanta Police Department, working in collaboration with other law enforcement and first responder agencies, is prepared to manage security for the annual Peach Drop celebration at Underground Atlanta located at 50 Upper Alabama Street.

During the day and throughout the Peach Drop the Department will staff a Joint Operations Center using National Incident Management System practices to ensure coordinated monitoring and response among police, fire and emergency services responders. Additionally, officers will be visible throughout the venue and the surrounding area, while undercover officers will also be working the event.

“We want people to have a great time bringing in a New Year at Underground Atlanta,” said Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Scott Kreher. “Safety and Security is our top priority and the Atlanta Police Department alongside its many partners are working diligently to secure the event. This continued cooperation and collaboration of resources helps us to ensure major events like the Peach Drop run smoothly.”

Entrances to Underground Atlanta for the Peach Drop celebration will be on Peachtree Street, Marietta Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 31 with the concert beginning at 7 p.m.

There will be bag searches conducted at all access points and a clear bag policy is encouraged. Prohibited items include: Firearms, chairs, coolers, umbrellas, drones, pets, bicycles, hoverboards and skateboards.

Please be mindful of the potential for traffic congestion around Underground Atlanta beginning at 3:30 p.m. with street closures at: Peachtree Street to Wall Street; Wall Street to Central Avenue; Central Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Peachtree Street. Event-goers are encouraged to ride MARTA to the event, or use rideshare services to reduce vehicular traffic.

For those who choose to drive, park in metered spaces or legitimate pay parking lots. Parking violators will be subject to towing. Also, remove any valuables from your car to avoid becoming the victim of an auto-break in. Even loose change can attract thieves.

We ask all event-goers to be mindful of their surroundings and to please report suspicious activity to a nearby officer, call 9-1-1 or use the see something send something app in partnership with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Download the application here.
