Major Timothy D. Peek is a native of Atlanta. He graduated from Frederick Douglass High School, a Georgia Schools of Excellence within the Atlanta Public School System. Shortly after graduating, Major Peek enlisted in the Army Reserves and attended Georgia State University until he was called to active duty during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. After being released from active duty with the United States Army, Major Peek returned to Atlanta and pursued a career with the Atlanta Police Department.
Major Peek began his career with the Atlanta Police Department in 1993. As a patrolman, he was assigned to the Zone 3 precinct and served in the capacity of a foot patrol officer, beat patrol officer, field investigations (FIT Team Officer) and also worked in the VICE Unit. While assigned to Zone 3, Major Peek was appointed to detective and assigned to the Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division. Major Peek was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2004. As a sergeant, Major Peek served as a patrol supervisor and zone investigations supervisor in the Zone 3 community. Major Peek also served as a supervisor of the Homicide Unit. In 2009, Major Peek was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and served as the Zone 3 Crime Suppression Unit commander. Major Peek also served as the Deputy Director to the Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), a task force of local, state and federal agents working under the authority of the President of the United States and the Drug Enforcement Agency. In January 2013, Major Peek was appointed to the rank of captain and served as the Night Operations Commander. In July of 2013, Major Peek received his appointment to the rank of major and was assigned as the Zone 6 precinct commander. During his tenure as the Zone 6 commander, the precinct experienced a 24% reduction in Part 1 crimes. In January of 2018, Major Peek was given the tremendous opportunity of the commanding the public safety operations at the world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Major Peek is a graduate of the 249th session of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy (FBINA). He is also a graduate of the 73rd session of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DUCA) Drug Unit Commander’s Academy. Major Peek is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) as well as NOBLE (the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives as well as an Atlanta Metropol Inc. member. Major Peek is married to his lovely wife and they are the proud parents of two sons and a daughter. They are all active members with their local church.
