Rodney N. Bryant was appointed to the rank of Assistant Chief on December 28, 2016. In 2015, he was appointed as Deputy Chief and was in command of the Community Services Division. Assistant Chief Bryant has 27 years of service with the Atlanta Police Department.
Assistant Chief Bryant enjoys engaging with the community. His favorite part about the job is collaborating with both officers and citizens to solve public safety issues.
He has also served as the Zone 4 Commander. In this position, he managed several projects and programs aimed at deterring crime in the area. In 2011, he led “Operation Zone 4” and partnered with the Fulton County Police and the City of Atlanta Department of Corrections to decrease burglaries, car break-ins and other crimes. In 2012, he managed the rezoning of Zone 4. The zone added two new beats to increase the response time to incidents in the area.
Assistant Chief Bryant has held additional ranks including Sergeant and Lieutenant. As a Sergeant, he managed the Crime Suppression and Special Operation Section Units. As a Lieutenant, he led Zones 3 and 6 as an Assistant Commander.
Assistant Chief Bryant is an Atlanta native, educated in the Atlanta Public School system. He attended M. Agnes Jones Elementary School and Sylvan Hills High School. Immediately after graduating from high school, Deputy Chief Bryant joined the United States Army Reserves where he became a Combat Medic.
Assistant Chief Bryant received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University. He also received his Masters of Science in Administration at Central Michigan University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management in Policing. In 2014, he completed a two-week public safety program and exchange focused on new public safety techniques and technologies. Organized by the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange, Deputy Chief Bryant along with 16 other senior Georgia public safety officials learned best practices on counter-terrorism measures.
Assistant Chief Bryant is the proud father of three daughters and a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, P.H.A. Masonic Order and the Greek organization Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
